Software Automation Engineer

Gainspeed is seeking a key member for the Software Test Automation team. The ideal candidate will be someone who is looking to jump-start their engineering career working in a fast-paced environment, dealing with multiple platforms and architectures, evolving technologies and lab environments. This is an incredible opportunity to work with some of the best minds in the industry.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with developers and other stakeholders in Engineering and cross-functional teams throughout the software development life cycle (SDLC), executing test iterations, tracking / reporting results, troubleshooting and coordinating defect resolution.
  • Own all automated testing for assigned features and functionality including writing the automation scripting, associated library development and any interactions with 3rd party software APIs.
  • Champion ‘out-of-the-box thinking’ with new testing techniques to improve efficiency and enhance quality of software releases.

Requirements – Experience and Technical Skills:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in CS or EE or equivalent with 3+ years of relevant experience or a Master’s degree in CS or EE or equivalent with 1+ years of experience.
  • Must have strong programming skills and experience with software development using one or more of the following languages – C, C++, Object Oriented programming, etc.
  • Experience or knowledge of test automation is preferred and having used one or more of the following scripting languages – Python (must), Ruby, Perl, Tcl.
  • Skills should include a strong understanding of L2/L3 networking functions such as VPNs, VLAN management, DHCP relay functions and routing protocols such as BGP, OSPF, RIP, ISIS, etc.
  • Knowledge of routing policies and classifiers, QoS & IP TOS, switched digital video and multicast using IGMP, PIM & MLD is an advantage.
  • Experience in use of test equipment and traffic generation tools such as open-source packet generation tools or other networking tools.
  • Understanding and use of common networking elements such as Juniper/Cisco router configuration and networking tools such as sniffers and packet analyzers.

Senior Software Automation Engineer

Gainspeed is seeking a key member for the Software Test Automation team. The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated, creative and proactive individual able to successfully work in a fast-paced environment, dealing with multiple platforms and architectures, evolving technologies and lab environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with external customers and internal departments such as sales, SEs, PLM and Engineering teams to identify the steps required to deliver complex solutions with quality
  • Work closely with developers and other stakeholders in Engineering and cross-functional teams throughout the software development life cycle (SDLC), executing test iterations, tracking / reporting results, troubleshooting and coordinating defect resolution.
  • Own all automated testing for assigned features and functionality including writing the automation scripting, associated library development and any interactions with 3rd party software APIs.
  • Champion ‘out-of-the-box thinking’ with new testing techniques to improve efficiency and enhance quality of software releases.

Requirements – Experience and Technical Skills:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in CS or EE or equivalent with 8+ years of relevant experience or a Master’s degree in CS or EE or equivalent with 6+ years of experience.
  • Must have strong programming skills and experience with software development using one or more of the following languages – C, C++, Object Oriented programming, etc.
  • Experience or knowledge of test automation is a must having used one or more of the following scripting languages – Python (must), Ruby, Perl, Tcl.
  • Experience and strong understanding of broadband access technologies over RF cable plants using DOCSIS, QAM channels, PacketCable, etc. is preferred. Experience working with other equivalent access technologies such as xPON, xDSL, etc. is valuable.
  • Software QA experience testing services over IP networks, both edge and core routers, including L2 switching and L3 routing functions. Skills should include a good understanding of networking functions such as VPNs, VLAN management, DHCP relay functions and routing protocols such as BGP, OSPF, RIP, ISIS, etc.
  • Knowledge of use of routing policies and classifiers, QoS & IP TOS, switched digital video and multicast using IGMP, PIM & MLD.
  • Experience in use of test equipment and traffic generation tools using two or more of the following – spectrum analyzers, Spirent, IXIA, voice call generators, open-source packet generation tools, etc.
  • Understanding and use of common networking elements such as Juniper/Cisco router configuration and networking tools such as sniffers and packet analyzers.

Customer Project Manager (C-PM)

The Customer Project Manager will be responsible for creating and maintaining the customer project and deliverable schedule, including technical, financial, resource and material requirements. They will manage the collection and updating of both technical and business requirements, scope, and change requests raised during the life of the project(s) and ensure that the project management plan is up-to-date and available for reference by stakeholders at any time. The Customer Project Manager drives the project team and works in close collaboration with customers as well as internal sales and engineering lead to ensure that the expectations of all stakeholders are in alignment with those of the project team. They also work collaboratively with the engineering lead to ensure delivery of the agreed project scope, to the required quality level, on schedule, and within budget. They also monitor and report at multiple management levels the progress of the project against the baseline from start to completion including the resolution of escalated project and customer issues.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with external customers and internal departments such as sales, SEs, PLM and Engineering teams to identify the steps required to deliver complex solutions with quality
  • Provide PM expertise to multiple customer projects simultaneously
  • Maintain an up-to-date project plan that can be referenced at any time and presented to multiple management levels
  • Lead meetings to resolve conflicts, facilitate decision making, and drive timely execution
  • Collaboratively interface with external customer teams to obtain mutual wins
  • Work with management to develop complex plans with considerable interdependencies, including contingency plans for dealing with potential or anticipated obstacles and changes
  • Contribute to the refinement of organizational processes in order to optimize operational costs and meet organizational and strategic objectives
  • Develop complete and well thought out execution plans that incorporate sound contingency planning and risk assessments
  • Contribute to the development of communication processes & strategies that foster collaboration and coordination across a wide ecosystem of resources and stakeholders
  • Solve problems in a timely manner based on professional knowledge
  • Treat planning and prioritization activities dynamically, adjusting priorities to reflect changing conditions
  • Track multiple project tasks to proactively anticipate problems, while always maintaining a solution orientation and a well-balanced perspective around risks and escalations

Requirements:

  • BS degree, strong academic qualifications in Technical or Business Management field
  • Minimum Five (5) years of experience in Customer Interface and/or Project Management in cable/MSO networking / telecommunications
  • PMP certification desirable; Cable MSO expertise and an understanding of their business processes is required

Tier-3 Customer Support Engineer (CSE)

The Tier-3 Customer Support Engineer (CSE) will be providing technical support to Gainspeed Systems Engineers and Cable MSO customers. The CSE will work in a high-energy team of talented engineers and cross-functionally with developers, testers and product marketing to provide solutions to our field and customers. The CSE is instrumental in designing, building, and maintaining a customer simulation lab where you will be diagnosing, troubleshooting, and debugging our solution. The CSE will get the opportunity to debug product-related issues within the customer network as well as replicate issues in a lab environment. You will learn to use sophisticated analyzers and tools.

Gainspeed is a start-up environment where you get the opportunity to do what it takes without being limited by strict boundaries. This is a Sunnyvale, California-based position.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform fault reproduction and troubleshooting, system characterization and analysis, root cause analysis of product issues up to and including drafting product Field Bulletins and opening trouble tickets.
  • Participate in technical design reviews and validate approaches for meeting product functionality requirements for cable customer architectures.
  • Provide input to product line management and development team members regarding customer priorities and product deployment use cases/applications.
  • Provide technical support to Gainspeed customers via phone or email for the Gainspeed product solution. You will be part of a collaborating team sharing knowledge and experiences.
  • Utilize call tracking and knowledge base tools to record customer-reported issues and document progress bringing issues to resolution.
  • Resolve product defects/bugs with engineering teams where applicable, as well as facilitate customer-enhancement requests.
  • Go on-site to support troubleshooting efforts in the field.
  • Perform other critical technical support duties as required.

Requirements:

  • Engineering degree, strong academic qualifications in Computer Science, or related Engineering field
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience in IP Networking and troubleshooting skills from telecommunication or data networking field
  • Experience in Customer Support or field support role in Cable/MSO networking / telecommunications highly desirable
  • CCIE/JCIE certification desirable. IP expertise is required.
  • Experience and knowledge in some of the following areas is strongly preferred: Cable Headend CMTS/CM or Access Technologies, DOCSIS, L2/L3 VPN Functions, Analog RF Spectrum, QoS, Security, Digital Video and Multicast, Upstream/Downstream QAM, CPE Subscriber Management, LINUX, Troubleshooting/Performance Tools

The System Engineer will be responsible for pre- and post-sales support, leading trials, and communicating technical and product information to customers and partners. They will work with customers and Gainspeed partners to ensure successful trial and deployment of Gainspeed products and solutions. This is a Europe-based position.

Requirements:

  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in Systems Engineering in cable / MSO networking / telecommunications
  • Experience deploying and supporting CMTS solutions
  • Extensive consultative experience and knowledge of cable headend CMTS/CM access technologies is strongly preferred (Euro-DOCSIS, CCAP, MTA, Linux, L2/L3 VPN functions, Analog RF spectrum, QoS, Security, Digital video and Multicast, Upstream/Downstream QAM, Channel Bonding, CPE Subscriber Management)
